Fasting Mimicking Diet: What are the Benefits?

Medical treatments we know are more reactive and more of a band-aid approach.

As a Lupus patient, I’m always looking for ways to improve my health without creating toxicity in my body.

As many of you know, I’m constantly researching ways to not only fight my disease, but live a thriving life.

There’s lots of clinical data proving that fasting is beneficial for longevity and health.  And I do advocate intermittent fasting in our Alkaline Diet plan.

But according to research by Dr. Valter Longo, he found that when organisms are starved, they not only lived longer, but they become healthier.

How Does Fasting Work?

Fasting activates a pathway that stresses the body just enough to have a rebound effect. Our cells experience regeneration and rejuvenation.

Fasting allows your body to enter into a ketotic state. After 24-48 hours of fasting, we see a cellular benefit via an autophagy response in our body.

Autophagy response is what allows our cells to optimize cellular vitality.  The stem cells increase which allow for tissue rejuvenation.

When fasting, our cells regenerate from within by increasing stem cells. Additionally the damaged immune cells die and the body gets rid of them. In response, new, healthy immune cells form.

This is quite significant for those of us with chronic disease conditions.

Our body shifts from burning sugar for fuel to burning fat for fuel.

I don’t know about you, but when I don’t eat for a long time, I tend to get hangry, anxious, and weak.

Fasting Mimicking Diet

So recently I found an Alkaline Fasting Mimicking Diet heavily studied by the USC Health and Longevity Institute to be proven to reverse aging and decrease inflammation.

This is a new 5 day protocol that we offer our patients. You are provided with meals, teas, supplements, and snacks for the full 5 days.

Typically the first day of the 5 days is not hard, but by day 2, you may begin to get hungry and irritated.

But most of our patients do well by day 3 or 4, where they experience an increase in energy and clarity in their focus.

The food on this diet actually tastes good and it consists of a perfect composition to provide your body with the exact nutrients needed to shift your body into a ketotic state without starving yourself.

Most people lose about 1 lb per day and shift from sugar burning mode to fat burning mode so they begin to have improved metabolic capacity, decreased inflammatory biomarkers, while regenerating and healing their own cells.
