Hot Yoga: What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger

Today, I am officially off on a much needed vacation to Mexico City for some cultural experience as well as some R&R.


Before I go, I wanted to report that we are officially open in Suwanee, GA and the heat for hot yoga is ON!


Thank you to those of you who attended our grand opening. I was so happy to see so many of you enjoying our amazing classes.  I’m a bit biased but I believe we have the best instructors in town!


I was overwhelmed with joy to be able to offer the community our healing center. A center that incorporates all the modalities that have healed me over the years.


Limits of Conventional Medicine

The topic of our blog today rings so true. I know many of you who follow my blog are struggling with various autoimmune conditions. But I want you to know, you’ve got hope.


There was a time in my life where I felt so helpless with my autoimmune condition that I felt I couldn’t plan my future.


With a background in conventional medicine, I sought out the best of the best at my Alma Mater, Loma Linda University Medical Center for answers to my symptoms.


I was astonished that the best they could offer was corticosteroids and immune suppressants that had worse side effects than the disease itself.


When I questioned the prescribed meds, the doctors would shrug their shoulders and tell me it was the lesser of the evils, that the benefits outweigh the risks.


Doctors telling me I have an incurable condition and taking toxic medications was the only viable option felt so wrong.


Similarly, my doctor, who’s only solution is toxic meds, telling me that I shouldn’t have babies and to only work part time to avoid flares infuriated me.


Becoming the Rebel

So began my own healing journey where I took matters into my own hands and live my life on my terms.


I have two amazing boys and have started multiple businesses that requires me to work harder than anyone else.


The work doesn’t feel like work to me because it’s helping thousands of people get stronger, healthier, and better than they were before.


Today I want to share how Hot Yoga transformed me.

Discovering Hot Yoga

I found Bikram Yoga (the original Hot Yoga) when I was going through chemo due to inflammation of my kidneys (glomerular nephritis).


I was so swollen that I gained 15 pounds over 2 months as my autoimmune condition flared, affecting my kidneys.


My doctors told me to take a leave from my job, not to travel, and to “take it easy” for a while.


I knew I had to get stronger and wanted to feel in control. For that reason, I knew the sweating would help my body detoxify, so I attended my first Bikram class.


My first Bikram Yoga experience was hard.  Not only is the practice hard, but the owner of the Alpharetta studio was a crass, harsh woman who pushed hard to get the precise practice out of everyone.


She scolded, bullied, and challenged everyone to give their best.


It was exactly what I needed at the time. I needed a hard, disciplined regimen to stay focused on my lofty goals of overcoming my medical condition.


Fast forward to today, I am so excited to share this healing practice with you.


My practice has evolved over the years and I’ve created an Alkaline Hot Sequence. This sequence incorporates Bikram and Ashtanga Yoga to help the body strengthen, stretch, stabilize, and improve posture.


We are officially open and our infrared heating panels are now working.


The benefits of Hot Yoga can’t be disputed as I have personally experienced the benefits, as have thousands of people around the globe.
