Conventional Lupus treatment
Conventional Lupus Treatment is focused on managing the symptoms of lupus rather than getting to the root cause.
For this reason, common SLE treatment relies on various medications to control the symptoms.
The primary role of Lupus medications is to suppress the immune system.
Because Lupus is an “autoimmune” disease, it means that the our own cells are destroying our own cells.
When the immune system is at war with its own cells, the collateral damage is what causes the symptoms and often can lead to other autoimmune and/or often debilitating diseases.
The medications used to suppress the immune system is toxic and damaging to the body, but unfortunately, in acute Lupus flare, it’s the only way inflammation can be managed.
Depending on severity and specific organs involved, Lupus treatment medications range from chemotherapeutic agents to corticosteroids and often Plaquenil (anti-malarial) is used to keep muscle and joint pain, rashes, and pericarditis, pleuritis, fatigue and fever under control.
The problem is that such medications they have very harsh side effects including hair loss, muscle atrophy, blood disorders increased susceptibility to infections, and cancer. Which is counterintuitive as such symptoms are what Lupus patients struggle with but the meds amplify and worsen the symptoms?
This was what lead me down this Rebel path.
Keeping Symptoms Under Control
When sick, conventional Lupus treatment does a great job of keeping our disease under control.
However, it does not consider the Whole Body and its respective systems, rather, a patient is assessed in parts by various specialists.
Also, health and prevention by protecting one’s body is not considered at all.
Generally, lupus patients are under the care of a rheumatologist.
Depending on your organ or system involvement, a doctor who specializes in the specific organ will provide specific intervention.
For example a nephrologist for kidneys, and a dermatologist for skin.
A rheumatologist is an internist or pediatrician, who received further training in the diagnosis (detection) and treatment of musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions commonly referred to as rheumatic diseases like SLE, Lupus, or Rheumatoid Arthritis.
But bodily systems are not actually separate, they work in synergy and balance.
When the homeostasis within the body is out of balance, then Dis-ease processes such as Lupus and/or other Autoimmune conditions manifest.
How is Lupus Treated?
Medications used to suppress immune system can often increase your risk for various cancer and cause secondary disease.
Key is to work on preventing dependency on such medications and begin helping your body to calibrate and find balance again.
Adjunct to the medical regimen, at Lupus Rebel, we believe in proactively doing our part to create health especially at times of acute flares and beyond to lessen the damage to our body.
While the medications are inevitable during the times of flares, we can work to stay in remission by keeping our immune system in check by adapting healthy lifestyle changes.

In 1998 when I was diagnosed with Lupus, I was told I would have 10 years to live. While I didn’t feel so sick enough to feel like I would die, the fear of the unknown kept me from living my full life.
Today, Lupus prognosis is much better than it used to be, however, incidence of Lupus or autoimmune conditions are on the rise.
It is clear that certain lifestyle factors such as stress, unhealthy diets, and lack of exercise, play a big role in the cause of Lupus.
I’m here to tell you, while there is no cure for Lupus, you can HEAL from Lupus but your success largely is depends on your mindset and perception of Lupus.
I encourage you to find courage enough to dare to go on the path to healing.
