Hey, everybody! So, today’s topic is a little dark, but I wanted to grab your attention – why you are slowly dying. We’re all moving towards our death. Thus, we’re all slowly dying. This is just a fact. If you’re reading this, you’re here because I talk a lot about autoimmunity, specifically lupus, and all the ways that you can live your best life possible.
More and more, I consider last year’s events and really, for me personally, the year before. This is where I really had to embark on my transformative journey for my life, health, relationships, and, of course, my business. I really, truly believe, without a shadow of a doubt, that my relationship with myself was ultimately sabotaging everything I was putting out into the world. Last year’s events really had me think a lot about the truth. Truth is not appearing like you think you need to or ought to. It’s not appearing a certain way or saying what you think ought to be said.
I have my podcast Mind Your Health, and I also have one for Functional Yoga Medicine practitioners. These are the two areas where I really felt a deep disconnect, discontentment, frustration, and disappointment. I’m both. I’m an autoimmune patient, a practitioner of health, and a functional medical practitioner.
Fragmented Pieces of the Puzzle
If you enter the sick care system and get on the medication treadmill, you are slowly dying. You might be one of those people hoping for the best. You’re looking to do a little better, feel a little different, get a little more this year. But, if you’re busy doing the thing based on what’s being said on the internet, I’m sorry to have to tell you that the more you do, the more you’ll realize it’s not the whole of everything that you need. The more you’ll realize you remain on the path of slowly dying.
You’re always going to have fragmented pieces because these practitioner are giving you their opinions and judgments and telling you what they understand, but they don’t really know for sure that this is indeed this or that. Truth be told, life itself is not black and white. Autoimmunity is not black and white. Our reticular activating system and brain-based science tells us that the more we focus on some area, that’s what we’re going to validate. If i’m being honest with you, under the guise of modern medicine there’s functional medicine, holistic medicine, integrative medicine, and it’s all a play on words.
I get really heated sometimes because I get frustrated with practitioners. I used to have lots of colleagues who would call me and tell me it’s the “latest and the greatest” and “progressive,” and they’re constantly on the research. So, I had to pull away and decide that I was going to completely go on a fast on the new and emerging information that was coming up. They were just regurgitating what was being said by the so-called authorities in the field.
Healing is an Inside Job
Whether it be keto, autoimmune paleo, or even the Alkaline Detox Protocol that I put out, it’s not all of it. It’s not going to transform you and heal you from the inside, because that’s an inside job. So, when I say you are slowly dying, I mean that if you’re not doing anything to drastically shift your mindset on the inside, you are slowly dying a lot faster than you would otherwise. This is the truth.
At some point, you’re going to have to look at yourself in the mirror, take responsibility, and decide you’re going to have control and create the life and health you want. Or, you’re going to keep looking to others and continue to do what you’ve been doing. I want you to just sit there and imagine if this is you based on your past experience up to this point, as I’m having this conversation with you today. As I’m having this conversation with you a year from now, three years from now, or five years from now, if you change nothing, you’ll only be doing a little better, still swayed by the ways of the world. You’re just being, getting on a rollercoaster ride, looking for the next best thing in terms of healthcare, or whatever it is you want to try.
Self Reflection is Necessary
Where would your life be? Would it be significantly better, if you really wanted to transform your life, health, and relationships? I do have an answer for you, but it does require you to shift inside and take responsibility. You have to do some self reflection and understand where your identity lies. It requires you to take a look under the rug and see what lies there. I’m willing to bet that there’s a lot of skeletons. We all have them, and it’s the part of us we don’t want other people to know about. It’s too vulnerable, too painful.
It’s what keeps us stuck. The self loathing, disrespect, and disregard keeps us stuck. We’re constantly punishing ourselves. With autoimmunity, there’s fear mongering. I was told many times over every time I went to the doctors that it’s not curable. What does that even mean? Get on the medication, be quiet, and stay the course. But that’s my death treadmill.
So, I refused. I’ve been sort of attacked in the past by people saying that you can’t cure lupus and autoimmunity. People want to defend their personal viewpoints. If that’s your viewpoint, this is not for you. There’s plenty of people that will go down that path, looping the fact that it’s incurable. If that’s your belief, but you want to learn ways to eat better, move better, and do all these things, why do you do that? Stick to what works. The medications are fast. It’s what you can depend on. But, God forbid what happens three, five, or 10 years from now. These people don’t want to talk or think about the consequences.
A Wake Up Call
It’s those who are ambitious, high-level, and want to make something of themselves who want to improve themselves, evolve, and grow. They have a deep longing for that, despite their autoimmunity. That’s who I’m trying to speak to. I don’t really have time, with our limited time in this world, to have a pity party. I don’t really do well with negative conversations. In 2020, it was a big revelation to cut ties with those people and energy I didn’t want in my life anymore. It’s all about being smart and having healthy boundaries. It’s me saying that I love me and I want to hold a place for me, so I’m going to have very clear boundaries from the naysayers and what doesn’t serve me. I’m going to keep my network really small.
I’m creating a movement here, through Lupus Rebel. I called my group the Tribe of Autoimmune Health Rebels because I’ve found that a lot of people who have lupus also have Hashimoto’s, MS issues, RA, and there’s a lot of overlapping. Then, there are many of you who have pre-autoimmunity. Think about it, it’s basically the intolerance to self.
To me, it’s like a wake up call. If you’re not getting that wake up call, you continue to go down the path of dependency and looking for answers outside of you. Then, you’re really not getting the point and you are slowly dying, going down the medical route. If that’s you, I really hope the best for you and wish you good luck. But, that’s not how I want to live. I’ve been down that path before and it’s not one I want to stay on.
The Alkaline Method
With that being said, I created the Alkaline Method. It’s a pathway forward. The Alkaline Method is the way we can place you in the framework to truly integrate all the pieces of the puzzle in one comprehensive program. Nobody has this program. Everybody just wants to talk at the conscious level. It’s at that 3d level where knowledge is, where it’s black and white, and where it’s cause and effect. At this level, everyone wants to go to the deep root of your disease and look for the problem, never mind the solution.
The practitioners are so smart and you, as patients, think they are smart too. They know more about your body that you. So, you look to them to solve problems for you when the real switch is on the inside. Through the Alkaline Method, we have four elements.
The Subconscious Mind + Foundation
This first element is the subconscious mind, which has three pillars. At the first pillar, we look at your foundation, learned identity, belief systems, and all the things we want to question. It’s something you haven’t questioned in your life. You have to really question and doubt. Is that really true?
I’m telling you it’s not true. Whether it’s I’m broken, it’s incurable, I’m no good, I’m not good enough, I’m not smart enough, I’m not skinny enough, I’m not young enough, whatever it is. We have a list of excuses that we believe. That’s what really keeps us stuck. That’s the foundation. It’s almost like you are the plant with flowers that bloom, but, with autoimmunity, those flowers, and you are slowly dying, because at the root, the foundation is all wrong. Autoimmunity kind of wakes us up in this way. It tells us that the foundation needs work. There’s a pathway forward, by looking at the foundations and identities. There’s tools and things that I do with my clients.
The second pillar is your alignment. You can’t do what you are not. If you’re a smoker, you’re going to smoke, but if you’re a nonsmoker, you’re not going to smoke. You can’t do what you are not. Yet, all the physicians want you to follow this diet, run this test, do this, and check back in three months. Take this supplement, take that herbal herbal adaptogen, take this medication.
They’re not changing the inside of you and the drama that plays out every single day to sabotage the very efforts you’re making. We’re all so focused on the doing, but you’ve got to look inward and do the inside job. That’s why the subconscious element is super important.
The third level is really about asking yourself the questions that nobody has ever asked you. This pillar is about looking at your core – your core values, core vision for where you want to go with your life, and your core mission. It’s about formulating what that is. So, that’s the inside work, through the subconscious element to the Alkaline Method.
The Conscious Mind + Polarity
The second element is the conscious mind. There’s three pillars here as well. The first pillar in the conscious mind is polarity. Polarity is dichotomy and the paradox of life. It’s not black and white. There’s not direct cause and effect. Life is gray and it’s very messy. In the name of science, it’s expert coming out and saying “I don’t know.” There is a miraculous infinite energy source or creator that has explanation beyond our comprehension.
We have to understand that polarity in our bodies and in our lives. There’s life and death, but you should not fear death nor life. You’ve got both sides of the spectrum. The acid and alkaline, the positive and negative, and the yin and the yang. That’s the spectrum of life.
As we live our lives consciously, you breathe and be present. That’s the second pillar of the conscious element of the Alkaline Method. You breathe, you are present, and you practice this skill. It involves tools that we teach you how to move through.
The last pillar of the second element, the conscious mind, is balance. It’s the place where you come to with self love, regard, and respect. You now have boundaries around your time, space, and the energy that you want to be around. You’re selective with who you surround yourself with because that’s super important. For a lot of you, you’re doing the thing. You come to me and pay a lot of money to be treated by me. Yet, you go home and you’ve got very, very toxic environments. You have a spouse that’s abusive, or a child that doesn’t behave, or a mother that is so negative.
Whatever the case may be, we all have these things in our lives. You have to understand that you love them, but you also must love yourself enough to set tight boundaries. That’s balance. The art of balance is loving what is, create space for others, and don’t change them. You have to look in the mirror and realize all you’ve got is to look at you. You’ll have to then take control.
With this kind of empowerment, the first and second elements, the subconscious and conscious mind, form the transformational psychology. This is where you move from a disempowered autoimmune victim to an empowered rebel. The third element of the Alkaline Method is modern science. That’s where I incorporate all that I know about functional medicine, physical medicine, energy medicine, and nutrition.
That’s where I assess your HPA axis, which is the stress signal and stress tendencies of your body. It impacts your endocrinological system in your whole body. The HPA axis is the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis. That stress comes from the fear that you can’t overcome, which is what you learned in the first two elements of the Alkaline Method, through the psychological transformation. After you learn that, you can mitigate the stress levels.
The HPA axis is something we address through modern science. There’s tests we can do and supplements I can give you, but really, at the end of the day, the antidote is really meditation, exercise, and healthy diet. So, the HPA axis is something we look at, and then we want to look at the gut-brain axis. People with autoimmunity experience digestive issues and gut permeability. The gut-brain, enteric system, and your nervous system communicate. But, we can mitigate that through stress management, through the HPA axis.
Immune Brain Axis
Then, the third level we want to address through the modern science element is the immune brain axis. When the perpetuation of leaky gut and gut permeability worsens, you get immunologically inflamed. You have this reaction going on that affects your brain, causing brain fog and all kinds of neurological issues. The brain is the current culprit. We addressed that with the psychological transformation of the first two elements, and now the modern science has a lot to do with the brain. Through the HPA axis, gut-brain, and immune brain, we use modern medicine applications to enhance metabolism, detoxification, and elimination. This is not just biochemically, but emotionally, mentally, and physically, as well.
Finally, we move towards the last element of the Alkaline Method, which is timeless wisdom. It’s the big source, through the practice of yoga, bringing you full circle back to you, understanding that you’re linked to the higher power. We have natural laws, mother nature, and we’re able to look at things and realize that sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know. We set intentions and utilize all that we understand about the laws of nature, quantum physics, laws of abundance, and the laws of attraction. These are things that you utilize so that you can leverage them and put everything into practice fo complete the cycle of the Alkaline Method.
If you do nothing and keep getting on the treadmill of dooming, you are slowly dying. At the end of the day, we’re all here to die. One day, we’re all going to face death. That’s the truth, but knowing that you are slowly dying, it’s more of a question of how functional you will be when that time comes. The bigger question for those of you with autoimmunity is why are you here? What is the meaning of your life?
Why Are You Here?
I hope last year really has you thinking and redirecting your attention towards the core reason of why you’re here. I want to bring you back to you, so that you can cultivate self love, regard, and respect. From that place, working on your subconscious and conscious mind, self evolution and growth becomes something you can commit to. Then, you can apply all the modern science tactics that I can implement. Then, it’s going to be amplified and put into practice with the timeless wisdom, through the practice of yoga, utilizing and leveraging the laws of attraction, law of abundance, and the spirituality of knowing who you are and realizing the greater purpose of your being.
I know it sounds very intangible, but I’m not a woo woo person. I know without a shadow of a doubt that it’s highly scientific, above my comprehension. Unless you can pull all of these elements together in a cohesive manner, you’ll never be fully well and you will continue to be slowly dying. I really want yo be part of your healing path to help you to up-level your game and make an impact on this world and find your true, core being. Thank you for being here and I’ll talk to you soon.
